No Experience, Looking for your first job

Finding your first job is a task that seems almost impossible to most people. The main reason for this is that most if not all employers require previous experience. But how can you have experience if you are looking for your very first job or you don’t have much experience?

The first thing you should do is to work on your resume. Your resume should emphasize your education and skills, rather than your work experience (or lack of it). This type of resume doesn’t need to be chronological, instead you can custom-tailor your resume for the particular position you are applying for and highlight the skills you have to do the job.

If you don’t have the experience for the position, you can compensate by showing enthusiasm to work and learn. If you are able to convince the employer that you are self-starter, fast learner and you can work without much supervision you already won half the battle.

You can relate your education to the work skills needed for the position. For example you may have done a project while in college, which was pretty close to the tasks you’ll be performing on a daily basis on your new job.

Emphasize your interpersonal and communication skills. If you know a foreign language make sure you mention it during the interview. Explain that you are a problem solver and you are willing to work hard to prove it.

If you do the thing listed above you will greatly increase your chances of landing a decent job even though you don’t have the experience required for it.
